Shortstop Deli is Serving Ice Cream Again!

After a summer of not serving fresh ice cream in downtown Ithaca, Shortstop Deli has opened Sweet Melissa’s Ice Cream Shop at the east end of their store, on the corner of Seneca and Geneva streets. Operated by Matt Kenny and Melissa Rauso, the couple brings over 24 years of combined experience in both the Ice Cream business and customer service to Ithaca. Matt’s father has owned an ice cream shop in Syracuse for the past 30 years which Matt worked at, and eventually managed. Over the years his father has developed a few recipes that were later passed along. Most notably their ‘Two Berry Twist,’ is a made-from-scratch red raspberry sherbet twisted with a black raspberry yogurt. This “sweet-and-sour” low-fat product is often duplicated by other shops, but is never quite the same as their family recipe. They also offer numerous sundaes, milk shakes, flurries and more, including their classic vanilla and chocolate custards.

Matt’s experience has taught him to work on the machines, insuring a constant air to temperature ratio that customers can count on time after time. Shortstop’s Sweet Melissa’s Ice Cream Shop is open Monday through Friday 1 PM to 10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 PM.
